Helix SA is a South African snail farm established in 2019.

Armed with determination and early research from Google and YouTube, we began our journey into snail farming. We quickly realized that European methods could not be applied directly in Africa’s hotter, drier climate. This challenge inspired us to develop our own farming techniques — methods uniquely suited to African conditions.

Our approach emphasizes free‑range style breeding, making snail farming more accessible to a wide variety of farmers. Unlike conventional breeding rooms, which are costly and labour‑intensive, our system is designed to be practical, affordable, and scalable.

🌱 Vertical Farming Innovation

  • Increased Space Efficiency: Vertical farms maximize production by using the curtain method, enabling higher yields on smaller land footprints.
  • Improved Monitoring & Management: The vertical setup makes snails visible throughout the curtains, simplifying feeding, waste removal, and harvesting.
  • Sustainability: Vertical snail farming is efficient, high‑yield, and well‑suited to Africa’s climate.

 

⚠️ A Realistic Perspective

Snail farming is not a “get‑rich‑quick” scheme. It requires dedication, patience, and hands‑on involvement. Like all farming, it remains a numbers game. Typically, it takes a minimum of 9 months

By partnering with Dicla Training and Farming, Helix SA now offers AgriSETA‑approved training designed to suit different needs:

01 Choose induction training

Attend our introductory program at Helix SA. This option provides practical knowledge but does not issue a certificate.

02 Enrol in AgriSETA Level 1
Complete formal training accredited by AgriSETA.

Successful participants receive a Level 1 certificate.

03 Benefit from mentorship
Beyond training, Helix SA mentors you throughout your journey, offering guidance and support to help you succeed.
